The Great Fort Myers House
Closing Quest!
April 2006
Preamble
Different approach - I posted bits and pieces of the experience to various internet haunts. So, I'm just going to hunt those down, and copy/paste them into a trip report, filling in any blanks as necessary

April 2nd, 2006
I'm flying down on the 17th to do walk-thru/closing week. The closing is sched for 04/25. In the meantime, frantically trying to line up my ducks both personally and professionally, to be ready and not have any shit hit the fan. OY!
<=== my new favorite smiley
Monday 17 April - fly day
Tuesday 18 April - final walk through
Wednesday 19 April - work from hotel, the Holiday Inn on Sanibel. My last
hurrah on Sanibel before I become a resident of Fort Myers and start thinking
it's silly to book a vacation only a few miles away. Oh, and one of the few
places on the beach that has WIRED broadband (the firm doesn't do wireless yet).
Thursday 20 April - work from hotel
Friday 21 April - work from hotel
Saturday 22 April - play on the beach - friendly, late afternoon low tide
combined with only a few days till New Moon = pretty damned good shelling
conditions
Sunday 23 April - ditto
Monday 24 April - work from hotel
Tuesday 25 April - OMG, IT'S CLOSING DAY

Wednesday 26 April - not sure; might get drunk or go shelling, or else make an
appt with the plantation shutter man. Certainly, I need some sort of recovery
from the stress of it all!
Thursday 27 April - fly back to Long Island.
Now that all those reservations are made, I need to start pricing moving
companies and hire one, so that when I fly back, I can immediately set about
supervising the loading of the van.
I still haven't figured out how I'm going to handle the drive down there...
hoping to rope a friend, or a Bro or a SIL into making the trip with me.
Later that day:
I still have lots to do, and it's pesky because my inherited antiques are strewn all over. Mother decided I was to have grandparents bedroom set AFTER I had hired and packed a storage space to the rafters. Likewise, Bro No. 2 decided to give me grandparents dining room set, because he and his wife prefer something child-proof. So between what I brought to Chez Bro, the stuff at Bro No. 2's house, the stuff at Mother's house, and the stuff in the storage facility, I have to hire a truck to make four separate stops on Long Island to pick shit up. I have a feeling that's gonna cost me.... Then there's the whole driving down thing that is pressing on my brain. eeep!

My week will be running around in a panic

I had been procrastinating getting a moving van, setting the date, and that's
not like me. Well, sometimes I think the Universe intervenes. I just found out
yesterday that there is going to be a HUGE memorial concert for my voice teacher
here on Long Island, Sunday May 7th. Had I actually got on it and made the
moving van reservation, I would have been long gone by that date. So now I'm
actually looking to reserve the van for Monday the 8th or Tuesday the 9th, so I
can participate in the concert.
Which means I sort of have a stay of execution. I had wanted to pack up all my
personal effects from here at Chez Bro this week, so I could leave for the
walk-thru/closing with a clear conscience, come back on the 27th and not have to
deal with all that before bugging out sometime on the 29th or 30th. The concert
being scheduled and my decision to stick around here one more week to
participate means I don't have to put quite so much pressure on myself this
week. And that means I will have time to walk after work (it's light out now)
instead of going into bug out mode each evening.
It's amazing how many books I've collected in 2.5 years. I'm also purging my
winter clothing down to the bare bones, keeping just enough for visits north
(mostly business clothing).
Eating - I'm forgetting to eat lunch again, and that's not good. It results in
being ravenous by dinner time. My goal this week is to correct that. I set my
Palm Pilot to beep at 12:30 pm each day, to remind me.
Smoking - holding at 12-13 a day....
tha-tha-that's all from this end.
